Protagonist: Nora
Nora is the main character of the play. Throughout the first and second acts, Nora is the driving force of the play. She creates a large web of lies which she gets entangled with after confrontation with Krogstad. Nora does have a certain fascination with herself, which could be the explanation for her determination to defy her husband. Nora is willing to go against the societal norms in order to make herself happy. However, Nora does this in a well mannered way. Her lies originated as a ploy to protect her husband’s masculinity.
Minor Character: Mrs. Linden
Mrs. Christine Linden is an old friend of Nora. Not only does Ms. Linden contribute to the feministic tone of the play through her altering of Nora’s party dress, she also embodies the views of society by saying lines such as “A wife cannot borrow without her husband’s consent” (Ibsen 8). Mrs. Linden is the first character to realize that she is a part of one of Nora’s lies, because that Nora falsely said that Mrs. Linden brought macaroons.
