Conflict

The primary conflict in the play is man versus society. Nora initially appears to always want to please her husband, who embodies the views of society. However as time goes on, it is clear that Nora just lied to try not to puncture his “manly self-respect” (Ibsen 8). Later in the novel, Nora overcomes this conflict by releasing herself from her marriage.
